In the Beginning
McGuire Earth Works started in the late 1970s with one backyard project. Tim McGuire was a teacher and a coach. A family asked him to design a yard for a wedding. He had no formal training in landscaping. He had a good eye and a knack for solving problems.
His plan called for block retainer walls, patios, plants, and sod. The family loved it and asked him to build it. Tim teamed up with Howard, a skilled mason. Together they finished the job. That first project set the path for everything that came next.
Word spread fast. Tim kept teaching during the week and built yards on weekends with a small crew. Many of his workers were former students. In 1981 he earned his California State Contractor's License. In 1986 the company became McGuire Earth Works, Inc.
Over the years our team took on harder jobs. Hillside soil work. Drainage systems. Large outdoor living spaces. We were one of the first crews in California to install inline drip irrigation and earthstone retaining walls. Our work at Northstar Ski Resort and a feature in Sunset Magazine put us on the map.
A Legacy Continues

Today McGuire Earth Works is led by Tyler McGuire, son of founder Tim McGuire. Tyler grew up on job sites. He learned the trade from the ground up. He now leads every project from the first walk through to the final sign off.
Our crew handles new builds, full yard rehabs, and large renovations. We work on homes and on commercial properties. Services include design, irrigation, drainage, retaining walls, lighting, water features, paver work, and sod.
Tyler runs the business on one simple idea. Build the work on building real relationships. That means clear talk, honest pricing, and a finished yard you will love for years.
